Stalking Jack the Ripper follows our main character, Audrey Rose, as she tries to uncover the mystery of Jack the Ripper, a serial killer. It is historical fiction, mystery, horror, all with a dash of romance. I really enjoyed this and am so glad I finally got to it!

What I Liked:

The Characters

I LOVED Audrey Rose as a main character! I’ve read about a lot of really fantastic female protagonists recently, but Audrey Rose is definitely one of my favorites. She is so incredibly intelligent, brave, independent, but also so kind and loving and a little troubled. I was rooting for her every step of the way! I also loved the family dynamics. Her family was in no way perfect, and incredibly dysfunctional, but they were all interesting and felt like real people. Also, I had a huge crush on Thomas, the love interest. What a peach.

The Mystery & Science Elements

This story is definitely a historical fiction mystery, and the way they uncover the mystery is through science. I loved that element, and I especially loved how intelligent Audrey Rose was at it, since she was a woman and women in that time didn’t really involve themselves in science. It definitely gave me good feminist feelings!

What I Didn’t Like

The Pacing

There wasn’t much about this book I disliked, but the main reason it got 4 stars instead of 5 stars was the pacing. There were so many parts of the book that were so quick and fun, but other parts that just dragged along. I’m someone that really doesn’t mind slower-moving stories, and, in fact, usually prefers them, but the pacing was weird in this book. We were either moving almost too fast, or way too slow.

Who I’d Recommend it To:

Anyone who likes YA, really! I’m not the biggest lover of historical fiction, but this was a lot of fun!

Thank you for reading!
